The female image is symbolic of Mother Earth and each plant, insect, and animal has its own symbolism related to the natural cycles of death and decay, growth and rebirth, what is naturally occurring and what is unnaturally occurring in the environment. In this painting Mother Earth is essentially gagged and oppressed but she
